The City of Selma does not have an Economic Development Corporation, but it does maintain its competitiveness in the region by offering economic development incentives to facilitate quality development .  In general, the criteria used to examine whether economic development incentives may apply include the number of jobs created, the average wage and the gross annual payroll generated, capital investment, the amount of new property taxes generated, and the amount of sales tax generated.
